Last bit of summer

I love devouring books outside under the sun. At night just before bed, in the bath. On the bus; but not on the tube ( i still haven't mastered the art of reading standing up whilst trying to keep my balance on the underground) . I find comfort in reading because it takes my mind off things.
Here are some of my favourite books that I would like to recommend

From top left-right
The Man with the dancing eyes by Sophie Dahl
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

If you want to see what I'm currently reading or the list of books I've read, follow me on goodreads
I'm still trying to finish Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, really wanted to finish the book before I watch the film

Somehow everything comes with an expiry date. Swordfish expires. Meat sauce expires. Even cling-film expires. Is there anything in the world which doesn't?If memories could be canned, would they also have expiry dates? If so, I hope they last for centuries.
重庆森林

Another quote from Chunking Express ( gosh i must stop quoting from this film)

I haven't taken any photographs with film cameras in a while, I tend to use them to capture those special moments, but since I've ran out of 35mm films and haven't bought any new rolls, i've been slacking off in photography.
It's not long before I leave for the summer holiday. Even though I'm quite excited to spend a month in the land of sea and sun , there are people I will miss, and my days wouldn't be quite the same without them.

I have been blessed with the loveliest people around me,  and I am really grateful for their existence. I wanted to cherish and capture every single moment I spend with them and preserve the memories in photographs.
The kind of memories that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, I want to keep close to my heart.

Song Dong : Waste Not

The installation by Song Dong at the Barbican Gallery . these are the contents of his mother's home acquired over 50 years. It's a really interesting exhibition, it kind of made me miss being in my grandparents house back in Indonesia, I could probably still find these things laying around the house.

Dokiltd

2 bowls, 4 pairs of chopsticks, 2 chopstick holders, a dessert spoon and a coffee spoon

Cat shaped chopsticks holder , aren't these the cutest?!

Just one corner of the shop with a variety of bowls

Tomita san is so sweet ! She runs the shop with her husband

feiman du . ONE.

feiman du .TWO.

feiman du. THREE .

On Thursday, me and Fei went to check out the Dokiltd Japanese tableware shop that's based in Harrow Weald, I found out about the shop as they had a stall in Hyper Japan. Harrow Weald is actually at the end of the Bakerloo line , it is quite a trek but it was such a nice day and we wanted to go on a little field trip . And the trip was worth it ! There are so many things to choose from I think we spent a good hour or so in the shop :>

Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing direction. You change direction, but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn.
Why?
Because this storm isn't something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Sometimes inside you.
So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn't get in, and walk through it, step by step. There`s no sun there, no moon, no direction,no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones.

And you really will have o make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how metaphysical or symbolic it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand rator blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood, you will catch that blood, in your own hands, your own blood and the blood of others.

And once the storm is over you wont remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You wont even be sure, in face, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you came out of the storm, you wont be the same person who walked in. Thats what this storm's all about.
a friend of mine reminded me to be brave no matter what i am facing at the moment, and she gave me this excerpt from Murakami's " Kafka on the shore" .
